"One who possesses the power to scrap a failed New World Order, for putting the American world back into working order..." America's Hope is Right Under it's Nose Vanishing Prosperity in America Jean-Paul Cassone' Friday, August 7, 2009 While scanning a row of empty retail space downtown, I heard a distant thunder. It was a thundering pair of feet some 60 million strong. A herd of up and coming consumers who’s presence is still not well known, yet who’s shear size is foreboding. What I’m referring to is “Generation Y”! The up and coming generation of new consumers born between 1979 and 1994. Just how massive is this new herd which blackens our distant horizon? How about three times the size of Generation X! Generation Y is comparatively quite unique in many ways. For instance, its ethnic spectrum is far more diverse than in generations past, with only 1 in 3 being of white ancestry. Three out of four have mothers who work and for every 4, one lives within a single-parent home. They have also been largely computer savvy since before the second grade. Being rather silent and largely unnoticed, this enormous herd possesses a strength soon to change most everything as we know it. What’s not realized about this generation is that it will not be so gullible to marketing ploys, as many of its former predecessors and when 60 million strong decide to shun something it will reverberate throughout the marketplace in a significant fashion.
One of the most striking characteristics about Generation Y is that it’s the first in 5 generations to have eye-witnessed a heightened sense of prosperity take the big slide. Having survived in a society gone from better to worse they are very budget conscious, don’t believe in throwing good money after bad and have oftentimes had a say in family budgetary matters before the age of sixteen. They detest greed and have had a front row seat in watching corporate America exploit the pants off of their parents while it robbed the shirts off their backs. Just last week I heard a 15 year old say, “American democracy isn’t of the people, by the people and for the people; it’s of Wall Street, by Wall Street and for Wall Street”! From a new, gigantic generation where “greed is bad”, perhaps there lies the last bastion of genuine hope for us all. One who possesses the power to scrap a failed New World Order, for putting the American world back into working order; on a saved planet where living a healthy life takes precedence over creative destruction! I was born in Manhattan and patted on the head at the age of 3 by Howard Hughes on the steps of an old New York A&P which had sawdust on the floors. I've had close associations with former vice presidents of Aetna, Merrill Lynch, IBM, Smith Barney and Black Enterprise and was previously in wholesale distribution for Polo Ralph Lauren. After I married, I remained in China for 3 years doing business language coaching, conceptual instructions, negotiations and research for 25 separate organizations and companies such as Total-Fina-Elf, Rockwell Automation, Whirlpool, New Oriental School, Nanhua University of Industry and Commerce, Sci-Head Patient Lawyers and True Alaska Bottling. I'm currently employed with a small publishing firm in Palo Alto, CA.
